Oleksandr Usyk conquers the heavyweight world: WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO titles in his possession

On December 22, 2024, Oleksandr Usyk made history once again. The exceptional Ukrainian athlete defeated British boxer Tyson Fury in the main event of a spectacular boxing night in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. After 12 hard-fought rounds, the judges unanimously declared Usyk the winner, securing him the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBO heavyweight world titles.

A fight of superlatives

From the start, Usyk showed why he is considered one of the best boxers of his generation. With his outstanding technique, speed, and strategic superiority, he dominated the ring. Tyson Fury, known for his unorthodox attacks and physical strength, could find no answer to Usyk’s precision. The fight went the full 12 rounds, with the judges unanimously scoring it 116–112 for the Ukrainian.

After the fight, Usyk said in an interview:
"This victory is for Ukraine. I thank my team, my fans, and everyone who believes in me. Together, we can achieve anything."

An unexpected guest in the ring

After the fight ended, IBF champion Daniel Dubois entered the ring and challenged Usyk to a rematch. Dubois, who lost to Usyk by a ninth-round knockout in 2023, showed his fighting spirit:
DUBOIS: “I want my rematch! Do you hear me? I want the rematch! Tonight was your night, but let’s do it!”
USYK: “No problem.”

The exchange thrilled the audience, and fans around the world are already speculating about a possible showdown between the two heavyweights next year.

More successes for Ukrainian boxers

The evening in Riyadh also brought great success for other Ukrainian athletes:

• Andrii Novytskyi defended his WBC International title with an impressive performance.
• Serhii Bohachuk defeated Ishmael Davis and defended his WBA Continental title while also winning the IBF Continental belt.
